  • This was the first spot where myself and about 15 other railfans shot the Société du chemin de fer de la Gaspésie's windmill train, powered by three ex-CP RS-18's.
  • The Société du chemin de fer de la Gaspésie recently repainted two of its ex-CP RS-18's into an SP Black Widow-inspired paint scheme. They are first and third on this windmill train which consists of 72 flat cars holding 48 windmill blades (as well as 1 loaded woodchip car up front), as it rounds a curve and approaches a crossing. These windmill blades are destined for Texas and represent a new business for the Société du chemin de fer de la Gaspésie, which runs this scenic ex-CN line. One of the units lets out some characteristic Alco smoke, though these units must be very well maintained as this was the only smoke show I got during the entire chase.

The crossing it is approaching is closed for the winter and is very snowed in.
  • Three ex-CP RS-18's (two recently repainted into an SP Black Widow-inspired paint scheme) lead a train consisting of 72 flat cars holding 48 windmill blades (as well as 1 loaded woodchip car up front), as it approaches an overpass in the town of Carleton-sur-mer, headed for Matapedia and interchange with the CN. These windmill blades are destined for Texas and represent a new business for the Société du chemin de fer de la Gaspésie, which runs this scenic ex-CN line. While much of Eastern Canada has no snow left, there is no shortage of it out here.
  • Going through a 10 mph section of track, the Société du chemin de fer de la Gaspésie's windmill train slowly snakes along the Baie des Chaleurs, on its way to Matapedia and interchange with the CN. Leading is rebuilt RS-18 SFG 1819.
  • A number of my friends had a great chase of this train this past weekend (wish I could've gone but family commitments dictated otherwise), so I thought I'd upload yet another photo from my chase of Société du chemin de fer de la Gaspésie's windmill train from this past March, which now runs every two weeks. Seen in this photo are number of American railfans that I was glad to meet for the first time, mostly heading off towards the next spot on an epic chase. Here the train is passing MP 12 of the Cascapedia Sub.

About 15 railfans chased this train, with quite a number of American railfans visible at right, just behind the power.

The wait up on this overpass was slightly longer than exepected, and brutally cold!
